PALM DESERT • New paintings by the talented young artist Ben Steele are on view at Coda Gallery this month. Steele is known for his imaginative still-life works, which feature a variety of pop culture references usually presented with a dash of humor. In some of his newer works, Steele once again displays his trademark wit and wisdom by offering his own takes on famous artworks such as Edvard Munch’s THE SCREAM. The show runs through January 12. L.A. Art Show

Top dealers and more than 35,000 visitors expected

LOS ANGELES • The popular Los Angeles Art Show takes place January 20-24 at the downtown Los Angeles Convention Center. Presented by the Fine Art Dealers Association, the event is expected to attract more than 35,000 visitors. The show includes displays by 130 top galleries from around the country, including Redfern Gallery, Laguna Beach, CA; Blue Rain Gallery, Santa Fe, NM; and Tasende Gallery, La Jolla and West Hollywood, CA. A gala preview, lecture series, and special events program are also part of the festivities. By all accounts, the presentation is the largest art fair on the West Coast. Intriguing Interiors

PORTLAND • The innovative Froelick Gallery presents an intriguing show this month. Titled Interior Castle, the presentation revolves around the subjects of shelter, home, interior design, the soul, and inner lives. The inspiration for the show springs from St. Theresa of Avila’s 16th-century book, The Interior Castle, which compares the soul to a series of rooms. Exhibiting artists are Jeremiah Goodman, Shelley Jordan, Matthew Dennison, and Kevin Kadar. Meet the artists at a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on January 7. The show runs through February 27.
