The Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, CA, has opened its first permanent exhibit, the Austen D. Warburton Collection of American Indian Art & Artifacts. The exhibition includes more than 150 objects that illustrate the culture and traditions of tribes from the Southwest and Pacific Northwest.
Martin Sullivan has resigned as director of the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ. Sullivan accepted a position on the faculty of St. Mary’s College in St. Mary’s City, MD. The museum’s board of directors is conducting a national search for a new director.
The San Diego Museum of Art has named Don Bacigalupi as its next director. Bacigalupi was the director and chief curator at the University of Houston’s Blaffer Gallery in Houston, TX.
Dan Ewen has assumed the duties of interim director of the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, MT. Ewen is a past president of the museum’s board of directors. The board is conducting a national search for an executive director.
The Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, CA, has announced the appointment of Gregorio Luke as executive director. Luke was the consul for cultural affairs at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles, CA. As a diplomat, Luke was primarily concerned with introducing the arts of Mexico to the American public.

The second annual American Women Artists show was held in Santa Fe, NM, in April. The top award went to bronze sculptor Joy Beckner. Additional awards were presented to Danae Bennett Miller, Nancy Bush, Beth Carver, Vicki Catapano, Nava Grunfeld, Janice Hanson, Pam Ingalls-Cox, Donna Ramsey, Mary Rasmussen, Roberta Remy, and Jamie Tasen.

The eighth annual exhibition of the Oil Painters of America was held in Scottsdale, AZ, in April. Awards were presented to Jove Wang, Mian Situ, Margret E. Short, C.W. Mundy, Romel de la Torre, Tom Black, David Good, Marilyn Simandle, Albert Handell, Evgeny and Lydia Baranov, Ellen Buselli, Carole Cooke, Richard Halstead, B.R. Gates, David Vollbracht, Diren He, Cecy Turner, and Dorothy Hraback.
The annual Pastel Society of the West Coast exhibition was held in Roseville, CA, in April. Top awards went to Marbo Barnard, Thaleia B. Georgiades, and Clark Mitchell.
