The annual market presents art forms unique to New Mexico that are appreciated and valued the world over. The show will include bultos, jewelry, retablos, metal work, woodcarving, ceramics, straw appliqué and weaving.

ArtToones Exhibit to open at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. “Thunderfoot Children” and “Empty JESTures?” are parts of the sculptural series that Merry ArtToones created to communicate serious subject matter through humor. With 40 years of experience, Ms. ArtToones combines her knowledge of painting and assemblage to create exciting 3-D sculptures. Her most recent works were influenced by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit”. |

Sam Esmoer and Mike Egan Downstairs will showcase the "Filet of Soul", an enigmatic, allegorical, mysterious, myopic are some words that can be used to describe the paintings of Sam Esmoer. Touting his work as being" slightly twisted paintings of the southwest", they tell a story that is up to your imagination to complete. His twisted perspective and sloping architecture ensnare you into each painting. Upstairs we are happy to have our first solo show for Mike Egan whose bold graphic figures resonate with Albuquerque's love for all things Day of the Dead.. |

The Ghost Town Arts Collective will present “Down Every Side Street: New Directions in Southwestern Art” at the Las Cruces Museum of Art This non-profit artists’ cooperative is based in Sherman and Denison, Texas. The group works to raise awareness of regional artists from New Mexico and Texas and their works. The goal of the organization is to promote, sustain, and nurture the arts of our area while representing the wonderful diversity of the southwestern United States. |

Eric Cruickshank: Paintings Working in the Highlands of Scotland, painter Eric Cruikshank’s body of work is influenced by the architecture and the atmosphere surrounding his homeland. These chromatic paintings are thinly layered bands of color which illuminate the complex surfaces of the pigment on panel. As the viewer moves from side to side, color pulses in constantly shifting patterns. Cruikshank is fascinated with the process of painting itself and how light and space create a relationship with the viewer. |

"Police Blotters & More" by oil painter Mark Asmus Each week, The Taos News publishes reports that come into Dispatch, some of which conjure up very funny visuals for Asmus' fertile and irreverent brain. Asmus embeds an enlarged version of the caption onto the surface and paints around it. For example, the painting here is titled: "Wait for me, Julia" and the caption reads: A driver was cited after "ripping down the runway" at Taos Regional Airport in an SUV Monday morning. Also featured will be Asmus' wide range of subject matter depicting day to day life in and around Taos, some serious, some lighthearted but guaranteed to portray the quirky, authentic and historic aspects of Taos. Beau Carey's "Echo and Narcissus Echo and Narcissus is Beau Carey's self searching mirror that reflects the blind spots of humanity's struggle to harness nature. The oil paintings strike a curious balance between the beauty and unease: a square lake in the bottom of a Rothko-field filled with endlessly shifting grays and transparent color passages. Carey's work is a product of his exuberance and lust for life, it is extremely engaging and contemplative because it's unassuming, stripped back container is deliciously alive. |

Joshua Flint & Craig Neslon, 2- person Show North Carolina artist Joshua Flint’s artwork is about connectivity and light. The artist hopes that viewers come away from his paintings with an understanding of how we are emotionally connected to buildings. Often this connection instills within us a sense of relationship. For Flint, the edifices almost take on human qualities. He believes that we often end up personifying our architecture causing these structures to resonate in our lives. -- For those that have delighted in the cafes, markets and piazzas of central Italy and southern France, California artist Craig Nelson's paintings will evoke a sense of longing as well as marvelous memories. For those who have not had these experiences, Craig's art will whet the appetite for the visual and culinary pleasures of the regions he visits every summer and paints with emotion and enthusiasm. |

Raymond Jonson (1891-1982) Paring Down to Essence: The Last Quarter Century, 1953-1978 The years from 1953 to 1978 exemplify the most important quarter century in Raymond Jonson’s career, when due to declining sight, he quit painting. During this period he left behind the transcendental aesthetics that he had helped develop in the 1930s and 1940s (put abruptly to an end by World War II) and left his post as professor of painting at the University of New Mexico at the end of the 1953 academic year. Both instances allowed the artist to take full stock of his achievements and passions over the past forty years and look ahead towards fulfilling these without distraction. |

Dana Newmann and Catherine Eaton Skinner Dana Newmann has been part of the Durham Gallery family since the Canyon Road days. This exhibition, LEAD/GLASS, represents a departure in materials for her. Ms. Newmann is a serious and meticulous collage and assemblage artist, who has used rose thorns, piano keys, Nepalese paper, bamboo, sheet music and many other materials to create her works of art. In this exhibition she has added cast glass to her repertoire: cast glass and lead. - Catherine Eaton Skinner is a world traveler with an Eastern-oriented passion and discipline. This new body of work is inspired by her recent trip to India and by previous visits to Tibet and Bhutan. |

Potomac: Pastel Paintings by Iva Morris Morris' pastel paintings combine a burst of color, light and emotional connection to the rivers and desert landscapes which she portrays.
