Creative Spark: The intersection of the natural world and modern society is fascinating. I like identifying hangnails from the past without getting nostalgic. Psychology and the human condition are the most interesting subjects to me.

Art Education: I am self-taught.

Best Art Advice Received: “Use puns like you’d use a bullwhip to pick corn from your mother’s teeth” – Mark Fenske. Really it was advertising advice, but it still rings true; it forces me to confront cliche or mediocrity in my work.

Favorite Studio Music: I listen to most genres; Spotify has a tough time nailing those “made for you” mixes. Recently I’ve started making playlists with favorite artists in mind. It’s a nice, focused exercise, imagining what music they’d have listened to or just identifying songs that feel like their work or the way they lived life.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: Fritz Scholder, Degas, Kurt Markus, Francis Bacon. There are too many to choose or list.

Artistic Goals: Remove the consideration of success or failure.

Other Passions: Land stewardship, ranching, horses, soil, physical labor, film photography, movie history, self-reliance and cooking.
