MONTANA
Style & Inspirations: I work in a photorealistic style with soft pastel. I’ve always been inspired by Georges Seurat, who was known for his pointillism…[My] work is created in a similar manner; composed of hundreds of thousands of tiny pastel marks for the majority of each piece.
Art Education: I don’t have any prior art education as I went to college on a basketball scholarship and to study pre-med…After college, I realized I was longing for a world of more creativity and began teaching myself everything there was to know about soft pastel at the beginning of 2023. (I’ve only been creating artwork for a little over a year now.)
Best Art Advice Received: Understand that ultimately though failure and rejection is no fun it will force you to create some of your best work in the end.
Favorite Studio Music: I lean toward music that draws emotion to help me transfer that sense of feeling onto the paper. My go-to crafted studio playlist ranges from a variety of very talented classical piano artists to smooth alternatives.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: THE PROPHECY by Mark Maggiori is truly magnificent because of the emotion that the painting pulls out of the viewer. It is simply wonderfully executed.
Artistic Goals: Going into my second year of creating art, I am proud to say I am checking off one of my biggest goals of having my first solo show in Livingston, Montana, this July. I also hope to one day have the ability to teach the techniques I’ve taught myself to anyone that may be interested in pastels, because I believe artists helping other artists is important.
Other Passions: In relation to my work, I love spending time around animals; specifically horses as my work would suggest. I also love studying writing and the creativity behind an author’s words.
